BBC: The Player
The Manchester-based virtual production studio had been asked by a team at the BBC to create something to present to the Director General of the BB, that would demonstrate the sustainability benefits of shooting in a virtual production studio, as opposed to flying all of the world.
I immediately decided the best way to demonstrate this would be to shoot a mock car-commercial that would see the car being driving in different countries, in different conditions.
From the initial request to the final delivery, I had 3 weeks, which is not a great deal of time. I storyboard up the sequence then myself and my team of artists spent 2.5 weeks building 5 different locations in Unreal.
All scenes were shot in a single day and I did the edit and post over the next wo days, meaning that we could show the work to the Director General, as planned.
Fun fact…the driver is in fact a first class, classical musician. As well as playing the violin in the sequence, he recorded the sound track.
